What we do

The volunteers visit, give practical help where it's needed and become a supporting friend during the illness - and beyond, if required.

The volunteers aim to complement the statutory services such as community nurses, Macmillan nurses, social workers, hospices and home carers to support the family. The amount of time given by the volunteer each week depends on the agreed needs of the individual family, but averages about three hours per week.

The volunteer's help is completely free, they are caring people, who may have experienced the need for support themselves. All volunteers are carefully selected, undergo continuous training and are managed by the Volunteer Manager.

"All the volunteers , without exception, have been friendly and reliable. They allow me to go out with confidence that they will manage to communicate with K and understand his difficulties. I feel sure they would cope in an emergency."
